Culture unites IPs

Roxas City (5 October) -- The on-going Dungong: Indigenous People's (IP) festival will have a solidarity night on October 5 at the Villareal Stadium here that will feature performances on the rich culture of the country.
"It will be an evening of dances and songs that will unite our IP participants, said Provincial Tourism Officer and festival director Alphonsus Tesoro.
"This will be open to the public so this is an opportunity for Capiceņos to be in solidarity with the IPs, he added.
A bon fire will be put up during the activity that is a envisioned to be the IP communities' proclamation of their pride and an invitation to the rest of the Filipino community to foster a deeper understanding of their struggle to preserve their cultural heritage and their ancestral lands which are directly related to their basic right to life.
The week-long festivities will end on Oct. 6 with a closing program that will highlight in the symbolic turnover rite that will announce the host of the IP festival for 2010.
The closing program will still include artistic performances and rituals.
The nationwide celebration is being attended by more than 100 IP groups from all over the country for cultural exchanges and presentations highlighting significant aspects of their respective culture. (PIA) [top]
