Cagayan de Oro City (5 October) -- The Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC), region 10, has launched a donation campaign for relief assistance to the victims of Typhoon Ondoy in Luzon and the Metro Manila areas.
"We would like to appeal for the benevolence of your respective agencies for relief assistance and donation of any kind that we can give to help alleviate the condition of the victims of this unwanted catastrophe," P/Chief Supt. Danilo T. Empedrad, Regional Director of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said during a recent emergency meeting of RDCC members.
Empedrad, who is also the Chairperson of RDCC-10, said we, in region 10, are very fortunate to have been spared from the onslaught of Typhoon Ondoy that has left our brothers and sisters in the affected areas very much in need of assistance.
These victims are now suffering from mass displacements, loss of lives and livelihood, severe damage to properties and the devastating impacts of flooding associated with continues heavy rains brought by the said typhoon.
He said any available food and non-food items can be forwarded to the Dept. of social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Region 10, Operations Center in Upper Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City, not later than Oct. 9, 2009 for immediate transport of the same to the National DCC Headquarters.
Cash donations, however, will have to be deposited to the NDCC through the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) Current Account No. 0-00149-435-3 and that a fax copy of the DBP validated deposit slip be furnished to the Office of Civil Defense, region 10, for record purposes.
