DOH leads Consumer Welfare Month celebration
Tuguegarao City (6 October) -- The National Consumers Affairs Council (NCAC) announced this year's celebration of Consumer Welfare Month on October will focus on the theme "Generic Drugs: Gawang Pinoy, Galing Pinoy, Tangkilikin Natin.
NCAC Officer-in-charge, Director Jaime Olmos said the theme is anchored on the key policy area of the national government to protect public health and to adopt appropriate measures to promote and ensure access to affordable drugs and medicines for all.
The Department of Health, Region 02 per information from NCAC is the lead agency for this year's celebration.
To highlight this month-long celebration, various activities will be undertaken to make the public aware of the relevance and benefits from the observation.
Kick-off ceremonies is scheduled on October 6 with a mass at the St. Peter's Cathedral, a motorcade along the main streets of the city to be participated in by member agencies to be followed with a short program and a symposium dubbed "Oplan Murang Gamot" to be held at the Cagayan State University Auditorium, Andrews Campus here in Tuguegarao.
This annual celebration is a result of Presidential Proclamation No. 1098, issued by then President Fidel V. Ramos declaring the month of October each year as Consumer Welfare Month. Since 1987 it is being celebrated with NCAC member agencies alternately leading the event.
Aside from the Department of Trade and Industry Region 02 and the DOH-R02, this year's celebration is being supported by members of the CONSUMERNET 02, an umbrella organization and coordinative body created through national Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) among consumer protection oriented national government agencies.
The body has expanded from its original eighteen (18) member agencies to the current thirty (30) members as its role has also been expanded due to technological changes and complexity of the market. (DTI/PIA 2) [top]
