Tanods receive P2-M assistance, incentives from Gov. Antonio
Tuguegarao City (6 October) -- Barangay Tanods from different barangays of the province of Cagayan have received financial assistance from the Governor as recipients of the 'Pinag Isang Tanod ng Cagayan (PITACA)' program.
Cagayan Governor Alvaro Antonio handed the check amounting to P2 Million as beneficiaries of the PITACA program.
The PITACA is an organization of about 9,000 Barangay Tanods serving the 820 barangays of Cagayan. PITACA is derived from an Ibanag term'PITAKA', which means wallet.
Antonio said the financial assistance is not enough to pay back the efforts of the Tanods in the maintenance of peace and order in their respective communities. It is a reward for their nobility and loyalty in serving the people in any eventuality.
The program was launched in the province of Cagayan together with the Provincial Director of DILG-Cagayan Mr. Marlo Iringan.
Iringan said Tanods of the province were organized as a federation under the Office of the Governor of Cagayan in order to look into their welfare, benefits and programs in line with their services as frontliners in the maintenance of peace and order in the barangay level.
Iringan further informed that originally the cash assistance to be given to the tanods is P1 Million only, but when Gov. Antonio was amazed on the attendance of tanods supporting the program; he gave an additional P1-Million. (Star/Oliver-PIA 2) [top]
