Bacolod City gears for Charter Day celebration
Bacolod City (7 October) -- Preparations are now underway for the celebration of Bacolod City's 71st Charter Day on October 19.
The celebration of the city's charter day caps the 19 days of activities of the world renowned Masskara festival.
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, who chairs the 71st Charter Day Committee, said this year's theme "Bacolod... Moving Beyond Expectations" best describes the city's resiliency in the midst of the global crisis where new and old businesses continue to flourish despite the economic downtrend that hit various countries worldwide.
This year's celebration will be highlighted by the presentation of the Banwahanon Awards to outstanding Bacoleņos in the morning, and the parade of floats in the afternoon.
The grand parade will be participated in by the cities and municipalities in the province of Negros Occidental as well as various commercial establishments, schools, non-government offices, employees and beauty queens. (PIA/cad) [top]
