Makamandag holds shootfest in Kolambogan town

by Breezy C. Jimenez

Tubod, Lanao del Norte (7 October) -- The army's 35th Infantry (Makamandag) Battalion held a shootfest for fun-shooters and gun enthusiasts both beginners and experts at the newly built shooting range in Barangay Baybay, Kolambugan this province on October 3.

According to Lt. Col. Sagat M. Bongolan, 35IB Commanding Officer, the event is primarily to promote gun safety.

Further, it is to promote responsible shooters, especially in terms of getting guns licensed to avoid criminal culpability or avoid using loose firearms.

Moreover, this activity will also prepare civilians in defending themselves should the need arises.

In addition, Bongolan said that this activity is to heighten awareness on accidental firing by getting well-acquainted in the proper handling of firearms, to strengthen the ties among community members to avoid conflict and to have a more stable peace and order situation in their areas of responsibility.

Safety and precautionary measures were also discussed to the participants prior to the shootfest proper.

As discussed, the shooters have to go through the three shooting stages testing their ability, speed and accuracy in hitting the targets.

Joining the competition are more than 30 fun-shoot enthusiasts from the cities of Ozamis and Iligan City, from the municipalities of Lala, Kapatagan, Kolambugan and Maigo.

Gracing the event and showing his shooting prowess is Grand Master Rene Maglasang whose shooting skills earned the appreciation of everyone present.

Since this is the first fun-shoot held in this venue, the organizers are planning to hold the same event soon. (PIO Lanao del Norte) [top]
