Experts to stage consumer road show in Capiz

by Jemin B. Guillermo

Roxas City (8 October) -- Consumer welfare and protection remain a top priority thrust of the Department of Trade and Industry.

According to Provincial Director Ermelinda Pollentes of DTI Capiz, they continue to step up their efforts in conducting orientation and other advocacy campaign to make the public aware of their rights as consumers.

Pollentes said that "a well-informed consumer will always be the best protected consumer."

She said that in line with the country's celebration of Consumer Month this October, the DTI will conduct a Consumer Road Show on October 19 at the Holding Room of the Provincial Capitol.

Pollentes said that the Philippine Product Safety and Quality Foundation, Inc., which is composed of experts on priority products, including officials from DTI will lead in the said consumer road show.

Included in the priority products are liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), electrical devises, construction materials and those that affect the life, property and safety of the public.

The consumer road show, she said, has been a regular activity of the PPSQFI and DTI nationwide every October to heighten public awareness.

Pollentes added that aside from the road show, they have also set up consumer welfare corners for information materials at Filamer Christian College, Saint Anthony College, Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion and Capiz State University.

She pointed out that the said area aims to help the public, particularly students and faculty in providing information on consumer's rights.

Pollentes also revealed that part of the month-long consumer welfare celebration in Capiz include the quality product expo, intensive monitoring of prices of basic and prime commodities especially that the country is under the state of calamity.

This year's celebration has a theme " Generic Drugs: Gawang Pinoy, Galing Pinoy! Tangkilikin Natin." (PIA) [top]
