RDCC-2 seeks NDCC aid for volunteers injured in line of duty

Tuguegarao City (8 October) -- The Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) Region 2, chaired by PC/Supt. Roberto M. Damian, has submitted a resolution to the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) for financial assistance for the medical operation of Mr. Hector Tabbun, the Regional Disaster Action Officer (RDAO) of the Department of Agriculture (DA).

Tabbun sustained fracture on his arm when he met a vehicular accident together with Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Director Melchito Castro and some UN aides while conducting rapid damage assessment on the damages brought by Typhoon "Pepeng" in Buguey, Cagayan when a dump truck hit the left front portion of the diplomatic car of the UN disaster action team.

Tabbun's concern is to assess the agricultural damages caused by typhoon "Pepeng" while the foreign aides assessed the need for food and communication lines in the heavily affected areas of Cagayan.

Director Castro sustained slight injuries in his head but was already back to work, while other companions including the driver were spared from the accident. However, Tabbun was advised to undergo operation due to a fractured arm he sustained in the accident.

Castro said RDCC members immediately passed a resolution requesting the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) through Defense Sec. Gilbert Teodoro to give financial assistance for the operation of Mr. Tabbun.

"I am already okay. My CT scan is okay but we are now focusing our attention for Mr. Tabbun who needs to be operated," Castro said.

Castro said Tabbun needs more than P60,000 for his operation. He also stressed that they met the accident in line of duty so it is expected that the government will give some assistance for the medical expenses of Mr. Tabbun who incurred serious injuries. (Oliver B./PIA 2) [top]
