Gov wants pro-aerial spraying TF created

Tagum City (9 October) -- Davao del Norte Provincial Governor Rodolfo P. del Rosario wants that a task force be created in to support the snowballing movement against banning aerial spraying.

Guesting in the Kapihan sa Kapitolyo, Provincial Cooperative Development Divsion chief Humber Cabunoc said Del Rosario had recently told him that a task force should be created to support the campaign opposing moves to ban aerial spraying.

Offhand, Cabunoc said members of the task force would include the Provincial Health Office (PHO) among other provincial government offices that would be of help in creating a wider and deeper understanding of the facts about aerial spraying.

Davao del Norte Credit Surety Fund (DNCSF) vice chairman Celso Cubio Jr in the same forum said members of banana-based cooperatives in Davao del Norte are up against groups pushing to ban aerial spraying.

He said some 4,000 members of cooperatives which are into banana growing, including banana farm workers, gathered at the Panabo City Multi-Purpose Gym to show the magnitude of those who are pro-aerial spraying.

Cubio estimated the force to be just about 15 percent of the entire work force involved in the banana industry of Davao del Norte.

"They just don't know how huge is the loss without aerial spraying and many would be affected," he said in dialect referring to anti-aerial spraying groups. "As far as I know no one died due to aerial spraying," he added.

Pro-aerial spraying supporters have formed a group named as 911 SOS (Save Our Sagingan), which came out during a meeting on September 11. (PIA XI/JMDA) [top]
