Leyte Business Month fete promotes Leyte, Eastern Visayas as investment destinations
Tacloban City (October 9) -- The Leyte Province Business Month celebration promotes not only Leyte and the whole of Eastern Visayas as an Investment destination, Mr. Samuel Tiu, the president of the Leyte Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said.
Mr. Tiu was guest, together with LCCI Past President and Business Month Celebration chairman and Mr. James Dechos, executive director of LCCI, at the Harampang Ha PIA held Friday morning.
Businessmen from Cebu and from the different parts of the Region are expected to attend the opening of the Business Month IT, Tourism, Otop, Agri-Aqua Trade Fair on October 14, 2009 at the People's Center and Library.
This year's theme is "Harnessing Local Materials for Economic Development" which brings to fore the fact that the province of Leyte has bountiful raw materials which when utilized to the fullest will help bring about economic development to the area.
Mr. Orlando Uy who initiated the Leyte Province Business Month three years ago, said that the LCCI which is the private sector partner of the province of Leyte, is happy that the Leyte Business Month was supported and accepted not only by the officials of the province of Leyte but also the people of Leyte.
Mr. Uy said that in terms of sales, the organizer has observed an increase the fair sales in the second year than in the first year. If the business of an area is robust, the investors will know that the area is progressive.
The Opening Program will start at 9:00 o'clock in the morning with the cutting of the exhibit ribbon, the welcome message from the LCCI President, the messages of Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla and the Keynote message of Mr. Jose Ng, vice president for the Visayas of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The planned motorcade for this celebration will not be pushed through because they City of Tacloban is collecting a fee for this activity, the organizers said.
Even the exhibit is being charged a certain amount by the City, Mr. Dechos said, The same is true for every single streamer or tarpaulin displayed, Mr. Dechose added.
Mr. James Dechos informed the media the different activities for the business month which will be highlighted by the Fair. On October 15 to 15, the IT Sector will be highlighted through an IT Sector's activities like ICT Forum, IT Job Fair, Medical Transcription Career Orientation, and Raffle Draw.
The Tourism Sector activities will highlight the second day with OKtuba Fest and tourism raffle draw.
Finally the OTOP Agri-Aqua Sector will feature the Bahandi Regional Trade Fair at Robinsons Place, Investment conference, Seminar on how to start and manage a small business, Employers-Employee Forum and a raffle draw. (PIA 8) [top]
