Landslides in NVizcaya-NEcija block commuters
Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (October 9) -- A series of landslides triggered by heavy rains since yesterday have stranded hundreds of commuters coming out and in to Cagayan Valley region.
Police Sup't Pedro Danguilan, police provincial director said recent landslides in barangay Minuli in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija and barangay Baliling in Sta. Fe, Nueva Vizcaya temporarily paralyzed the flow of traffic in Cagayan Valley region.
The landslides Carranglan and Sta. Fe towns happened at 1 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. respectively.
"We are appealing to our commuters to stay put and wait for announcements before proceeding to these areas. We are also appealing to them to be cooperative to authorities specially during traffic operations," he told PIA.
Personnel and heavy equipments of the Department of Public Works and Highways(DPWH in both provinces are now jointly doing clearing operations to restore traffic in the said areas.
Commuters started their ordeal in Carranglan town yesterday (October 8) as the Puncan bridge had been under strong water as the river swelled due to heavy rains spawned by typhoon "Pepeng". (bme/PIA NVizcaya) [top]
