Dalit Festival caps Tangub City fiesta

Cagayan de Oro City (9 October) -- Dalit Festival, a dance presentation offered to St. Michael the Archangel for the blessings that Tangubanons received during the year was once again celebrated on September 29, 2009 at the City Sports Complex.
This year's Dalit was participated in by different barangay clusters and neighboring towns and cities.
With its colorful and creative costumes and props, the participants paraded them during the Street Dancing Competition held around the city proper.
Right after the street dancing, a ritual presentation was held at the newly-reconstructed city sports complex.
The Dalit Festival 2009 competition was composed of two categories namely, Invitational Category and the Barangay category.
Both categories were allowed to perform freely based on their interpretation of any culture (ethnic or non-ethnic) of a Filipino way of life focusing on thanksgiving / offering to God through the intercession of St. Michael, the Archangel.
Each contingent both categories has its own lead dancer who was automatically the candidate for the Dalit Festival Queen.
This year's Dalit Festival Queen Competition was joined by 16 dancers.
The following were the winners of the Ritual Presentation this year's Dalit Festival: for Invitational Category, 1st Prize (Lanao Del Norte), 2nd Prize (Oroquieta City), 3rd Prize (Municipality of Don Victoriano) and 4th Prize (Ozamiz City).
Northwestern Mindanao State College representing cluster 7 won the 1st Prize for Barangay Category followed by Cluster 11 (Sumirap National High School), 3rd Prize Cluster 1 (Tangub City National High School), 4th Prize Cluster 6 (Gov. Alfonso D. Tan College) and 5th Prize Cluster 9 (Lorenzo Tan National High School).
In the street dancing competition, the Northwestern Mindanao State College and Lanao Del Norte grabbed the 1st Prize for Barangay and Invitational Categories respectively.
Best in Costume was given to Lanao Del Norte for the invitational category.
Cluster 9 got the best in ethnic attire and Cluster 7 won the Best in Filipiniana.
Ms. Jenny Peligrin became the Festival Queen 2009. She was the lead dancer of cluster 7 (NMSC) besting 15 other contestants. (Tangub City, i-net) [top]
