PNP Caraga fights illegal logging

Butuan City (12 October) -- Joint team from Tagbina Municipal Police Station and PENRO Monitoring Station led by Forester Rudy C. Francisco conducted operation against illegal logging along Sitio Matin-ao Highway, Poblacion, Tagbina, Surigao del Sur on October 7, 2009 at around 7:10 in the evening.

Said operation resulted to the apprehension of one unit ten-wheeler truck bearing plate number YCF-818 loaded with 137 pieces of Bagras (16.cubic meters) and driven by one Darwin Tan, of legal age and a resident of Poblacion, Tagbina, Surigao del Sur.

Said truck and forest products are now temporarily under the custody of Tagbina Municipal Police Station pending for proper turn-over to DENR.

Report on loose firearm

A homemade .38 caliber revolver (Paltik) with Serial number 150444 and three live ammunitions were voluntarily surrendered by one Julie Calusayan, 42 years old, married, farmer and a resident of Purok-2A, Barangay Camp Bagang, Barobo, Surigao del Sur on October 9, 2009 at around 8:15 in the morning.

Said person surrendered the firearm to Hon. Ernesto N. Calusayan, Barangay Kagawad of the aforesaid Barangay and Chairman on Peace and Order Committee and eventually turned-over the items to 141st RMG Coy based at Barangay Cutlog, Barobo, Surigao del Sur.

The firearm with ammunitions is now under the custody of 141st RMG Coy for proper disposition.

Meanwhile, on October 8, 2009 at around 7:00 o'clock in the morning, a concerned citizen informed PSI Edwin Noguerra, Group Director (GD), 1405th PPMG that there were two firearms hidden near the water reservoir of Barangay Cagbaoto, Bayabas, Surigao del Sur.

One team immediately proceeded to the said area and recovered one homemade caliber .38 revolver with out serial number and one defective homemade shotgun.

Recovered firearms are now under the custody of 1405th PPMG for proper disposition.

Shooting incident and recovery of firearm

On October 9, 2009 at around 5:10 in the morning at Care free Marketing, JC Aquino Avenue, Butuan City, a certain Dexter Jumalon Ampalayo, 23 years old, single and a resident of Purok-5, Barangay Doongan, Butuan City was shot by one Jack Cinco, of legal age, Security Guard member of TCO Security Agency and detailed at Aqua Fresh and Forever Living Products Building, JC Aquino Avenue, Butuan City.

Initial investigation conducted by Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) disclosed that Dexter Ampalayo was an attendant of Care Free Marketing while Jack Cinco together with an unidentified Balot vendor were customers of the said establishment.

Victim noticed that the suspect became unruly to the other customers, prompting him to caution the suspect that resulted to heated argument. Suspect then shot the victim using a caliber .38 revolver. Victim sustained one gunshot wound on his neck and was rushed to MJ Santos Hospital for medical treatment while the suspect fled to unknown direction.

Responding team from Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) recovered at the crime scene one unit Homemade caliber .38 revolver with serial number 31632 loaded with four ammunitions, one spent shell and one unit mountain bike which allegedly left behind by the suspect. BCPO is conducting manhunt operation against the suspect while the recovered firearm was brought to PNP Crime Laboratory Office for ballistic examination.

PNP arrests wanted person

On October 9, 2009 at around 10:00 o'clock in the morning at Purok-9, Barangay Obrero, Butuan City, a certain Gina Nerizo Peņalosa, 39 years old, married and a resident of the aforesaid place was arrested by elements of Butuan City Police Station (BCPS) 2 led by SPO3 Advincula by virtue of Warrant of Arrest (WOA) issued by Hon. Judge Eduardo Casals of RTC Branch 1, Libertad, Butuan City for violation of RA 7610 with recommended bail bond of PhP80,000.00.

Arrested person is now detained at BCPS 2 for proper disposition.

On the other hand, joint elements from Surigao City Police Station and CIDU 13 arrested one Jenrell Achas Amarille, 25 years old, married and a resident of Purok-6, Barangay Cagniog, Surigao City on October 9, 2009 at around 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon at Borromeo Street, Barangay Taft, Surigao City by virtue of WOA issued by Hon. Judge Victor Canoy of RTC 10th Judicial Region, Surigao City for violation of section 5A of RA 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Children) docketed under criminal case number 8316 with recommended bail bond of PhP2,000.00.

Arrested person is now detained at Surigao City Police Station for proper disposition.

Hazing incident resulting to death

On October 8, 2009 at around 10:00 o'clock in the morning, one John Vincent Bernat, 17 years old, student of Northern Mindanao State Institute of Science and Technology and a resident of Hinagdanan, Barangay Comagascas, Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte died while undergoing medical treatment at MJ Santos Hospital, Butuan City.

Initial investigation disclosed that the victim was a neophyte of Alpha Kappa Rho Fraternity and Sorority who undergone initiation last October 2, 2009 at around 1:30 in the afternoon at Sitio Hinagdanan, Barangay Comagascas, Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte.

Said victim sustained severe injuries on his thigh and two days later, he was confined at the said hospital but later died while undergoing medical treatment. Suspects were identified as: Glober Orcullo Deorico; Ron Ryan Pilapil; Roger Makiling; Rex Corvera; and Lemuel Callano, all of legal age. One of the suspects named Glober Orcullo was apprehended and now under the custody of Cabadbaran MPS for further investigation and proper disposition.

Report on direct assault

On October 10, 2009 at 6:10 in afternoon, one SPO3 Rey Lacerna Viajar, 55 years old, married, PNP member presently assigned at Sta Josefa Municipal Police Station in Agusan del Sur while standing infront of a store located at Purok-7, Barangay Poblacion, Sta Josefa, Agusan del Sur suddenly assaulted and hacked the back portion of his body by suspect identified as Aly Sigalis Anobong, 33 years old, married and resident in Soriano, Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte.

Thereafter, said Police Officer successfully disarmed and arrested the suspect. Suspect is now detained at Sta Josefa Municipal Police Station for filing of appropriate charges in court while the victim was immediately brought to the nearest Hospital for medical treatment.

Accomplishment report on loose firearm

On October 11, 2009 at 5:30 in the afternoon, one Isagani Yaon Casa, 31 years old, married, gold panner and resident of Bayugan, Agusan del Sur voluntarily surrendered his cal .38 revolver without serial no. ammunitions to the elements of 141st RMG Company led by PINSP Junyd Marohom and 36 IB Phil Army led by 1Lt Emetrio Armada while conducting combat patrol operation at Purok-3, Dasagan, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur.

Said firearm is now under the custody of 141st RMG Company for proper disposition.

Task force Gastardo activated

Police Regional Office 13 immediately activated a Task Force following the shooting to death of Hon. Nasario Gastardo, Municipal Vice Mayor of San Francisco, Surigao del Norte.

Task Force Gastardo was activated in Surigao del Norte Provincial Police Office (PPO) led by PSSUPT David Yalong Ombao, Provincial Director, Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office as the TF Commander.

Said task group was activated to immediately resolve the case and filing of appropriate charges in court against the murder suspects.

At about 6:30 early evening on October 9, 2009, Hon. Nasario Gastardo, Municipal Vice Mayor of San Francisco, Surigao del Norte, 51 years old, a resident of Kaskag, Bagong Silang 2, Surigao City, was shot on his head in front of his residence by two unidentified suspects.

Suspects immediately fled towards unknown direction after the incident. Meanwhile, victim was immediately brought to Miranda Family Hospital, Surigao City for medical treatment but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Responding team from Surigao City PS and SOCO conducted initial investigation at the crime scene and were able to recover one (1) empty cartridge of caliber 45 pistol. One of the suspects was already identified by the witnesses but the name is withheld so as not to jeopardize the ongoing police operations. TF Gastardo has taken immediate cognizance of the case to ensure solution of the case. Caraga Police Regional Director Police Chief Superintendent LINO DE GUZMAN CALINGASAN said that police operations is continuing and heightens as days move on and hopeful that the case will be solved the earliest possible time. RD CALINGASAN solicits the help of the community who may have information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects as the Task Group will also be relying on leads and evidences that come their way.
