PGMA orders officials to execute their rehabilitation plans
Tuguegarao City (12 October) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered the regional directors of different line agencies in Region 2 to execute immediately their rehabilitation plans on the damages brought by typhoon "Pepeng".
PGMA, who presided over the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) 2 emergency meeting here, said all line agencies must move now to bring back the lives of affected families into normal condition.
Region 2's agricultural products were heavily affected posting 1.8 billion pesos worth of production loss in terms of rice, 208 million for corn, 89 million for high value commercial crops, and 3.9 million for livestock.
With this, PGMA ordered the Department of Agriculture and the Local Government Units to take appropriate actions to bring back the livelihood of the affected families.
The President said Local Government Units (LGUs) must shoulder the primary responsibility in the conduct of rehabilitation efforts by using their funds allotted for disasters such as their calamity funds.
In the action plan presented by DA Regional Director Andrew B. Villacorta, the agriculture department will provide seed subsidy to affected farmers through the GMA Rice Program. 92,497 bags of certified palay seeds were already allocated amounting to P110.9 million. For corn, 16,360 bags were allocated amounting to P32,720 were allocated and P100,000 worth for seeds and seedlings were also allocated for HVCC.
For livestock, DA will give animal dispersals. Cattle, Carabao, Goat and Swine for Cagayan amounting to P1.8 million while Cattle, Carabao, Goat, Sheep and Swine for Isabela amounting to P2 million.
On infrastructures, DPWH Regional Director Eugenio R. Pipo reported P176.9 million worth of damages and rehabilitation is on going.
PGMA also announced the grant of one (1) year moratorium on housing loan payments for GSIS and PAG-IBIG members. (Oliver B./PIA 2) [top]
