PGMA gives relief assistance to typhoon Pepeng's victims, checks extent of damages

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (12 October) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo made a scheduled visit here to distribute relief goods to typhoon victims and personally assess the damages caused by "Pepeng" in this province through the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) officials.

The President arrived here before noon and was welcomed by Cagayan 3rd District Congressman Manuel M. Mamba, military and local officials and immediately proceeded to the Cagayan Capitol Gymnasium where she distributed relief goods.

With the President were Quirino Governor Dakila Carlo E. Cua, Cabinet Secretary Silvestre Bello III and Local Utilities and Water Administration (LUWA) chairman Prospero Pichay.

PGMA handed to Cagayano typhoon victims more than three hundred packs of assorted relief items at the Capitol Gymansium together with Cagayan Governor Alvaro T. Antonio.

Pepeng's wrath was felt in this province last Saturday bringing strong winds and bounced back after another typhoon pulled him and made landfall last Wednesday making another landfall bringing heavy rains in northern Luzon that caused flashfloods and landslides.

Provinces in northern Luzon were not spared from typhoon Pepeng's landfall because it has caused flashfloods on low-lying areas and landslides killing hundreds of people from different parts of northern Luzon. (PIA Isabela) [top]
