Tagum City DepEd holds gymnastics training

Davao City (13 October) -- Tagum City Division conducted the first ever Gymnastics training for students and teachers from September 24 – 26, 2009 at Magugpo Pilot Central Elementary School and Tagum Trade and Cultural Center.

Elementary pupils and high school students from private and public schools from Tagum City who possessed pleasing personality, skills in dancing and acrobatic stunts, have the interest and potential were given free training. They were joined by their teachers who like them are neophytes and have insufficient knowledge in coaching techniques.

National pool of trainers who are also international judges were around to share their expertise on the 3 discipline namely Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) Robert Tejada, Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) Carmen Tejada and Rhythmic Artistic Gymnastics (RAG) Divine Beren. DAVRAA Tournament Managers and PALARONG PAMBANSA Officials Felanie Caasi, Gina Concha and Darwin F. Suyat assisted the trio.

Right after the opening program, there was a formal introduction to and general rules of Gymnastics, selection of gymnast and breaking up to groups. RG gymnasts were trained in an array of numerous apparatuses like ball, rope, ribbon and hoop while MAG and WAG honed their skills in hand stand, cart wheel, salto and spotting.

They were likewise treated on the second day with an extensive warm up and stretching exercises, body movement's elements like jumps, leaps, turns, pivots, balances, flexibility, waves, acrobatic skills, technical requirements and video viewing which include identification of technical body movements and level of difficulties.

The last day proved to be exhausting but interesting with the inclusion of teaching of basic skills routine creation, choice of technical elements specific to apparatus, horse vault and acrobatic elements. The spectators were treated to an afternoon of artistic and skilled presentation of the gymnasts with their coaches during the closing program.

Mayor Rey T. Uy who successfully launched taekwondo and karate saw the need to explore other sporting skills of young Tagumeños and immediately bought gymnastics equipments like mat, balance beam and springboard.
