NVizcaya bishop praises soldiers' role for typhoon victims

Solano, Nueva Vizcaya (October 13) -- Bishop Ramon Villena of the diocese here and in Quirino province on Tuesday cited the role of the Armed Forces of the Philippines(AFP) in helping victims of disasters in the country.

"Contrary to several false accusations, our armed forces have shown their commitment and dedication in protecting the lives of our fellow Filipinos specially during disasters and calamities," he stressed during the signing of the memorandum of agreement to operationalize the Church-Military Advisory Group (CMAG) at the Governor's Garden Hotel in this town.

Villena said he was touched by the soldiers' dedication to help victims of typhoons "Ondoy" and "Pepeng" in Metro Manila, Central and Northern Luzon.

The bishop who also sourced - out donations from the catholic faithful in his diocese, supported by his parish priests also sent relief goods to victims of disasters in Cagayan province who suffered the brunt of the recent typhoon "Pepeng".

"Without their resources and help, these donations will not be delivered on time for typhoon victims. It is good that they are here to preserve life," Villena said.

He said that they will continue to source out donations from benevolent individuals and groups in his diocese to provide relief supplies for the downthrodden in Cagayan province.

"I am appealing to all faithful and kind hearted organizations to help us in this endeavor inorder to provide the necessary assistance to the victims of typhoon "Ondoy" and "Pepeng"," he said. (bme/PIA NVizcaya) [top]
