Soldiers pledge to fight graft and corruption

Camp Apolinario, Panacan, Davao City (14 October) -- Soldiers in Region XI have vowed to fight graft and corruption as they pledge to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Code of Ethics in a ceremony held at the army headquarters 8:00 AM here today.

The soldiers' oath is in line with the 18th anniversary of the AFP's Office of Ethical Standard and Public Accountability (OESPA) and the government's drive against graft and corruption in any form. The AFP-wide OESPA celebration and oath to the AFP code of ethics was done in every major military camp nationwide.

Maj Gen. Reynaldo Mapagu, Commander of the Army's 10th Infantry Division led the officers and enlisted personnel in taking their oath saying, "We belong to an organization that is looked upon by people because of the exacting and uncompromising discipline we follow. The same fervor must be followed by every man in uniform in our campaign against all forms of corruption. We must start this within ourselves and within our ranks to rightfully serve our people."

"The renewed vow of our soldiers is expected to bring good results as we move on to serve our countrymen in every walks of life and in every corner of the land where government's presence is needed," Mapagu adds.

OESPA is an internal arm of the AFP that ensures adherence of soldiers to ethical and moral standards in line with pertinent laws and Armed Forces rules and regulations. (Cpt Emmanuel R Garcia (INF) PAChief, Division Public Affairs Office) [top]
