7th Kaimonan Festival '09 held in Tagum
Davao City (14 October) -- Kaimonan Festival is a gathering of Indigenous People in Tagum City with its four dominant tribes; Mansaka, Mandaya, Kalagan, and Dibabaon. It is a joyous celebration for a bountiful harvest to give thanks to their GOD known as "Magbabaya".
Kaimonan Festival showcases different rituals, tribals songs and dances like in Courtship "Pagkinarimay", Wedding "Pagbaroy", Birth Pagka-otaw", Abduction "Pagkamang sang Utaw", Rescue "Pagluwas, Pangapog "Offering" and War dance "Pagpangayaw".
The Kaimonan Festival is regularly celebrated every 10th of October in line with RA 8371 Ordinance No. 82 series of 2003 declaring it as the Tribal Day Celebration in view of the Indigenous Peoples Month. This year's theme is "Panawag-Tawag aw Pangapog nang mag Tipanud sang Tagum" (Prayers and Rituals of the First People of Tagum City) held at Tagum Trade and Cultural Center.
One of the highlights for this year's event was the launching of initial compilation of Mansaka Customary Law. The Dictionary of Mansaka, Mandaya, and Kagan was also launched in line with the preservation, recognition, and protection of the cultural tradition and institutions of the Indigenous People of Tagum City.
