20 cook-applicants ready for Lutong Garbo match

Dumaguete City (14 October) -- A total of 20 menus from each municipalities and cities will be competing in the 4th grand cooking festival on October 17 at the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office conference hall, this city.

However, the Negros Oriental Tourism Council (NOTC) Lutong Garbo Committee is expecting all 25 municipalities and cities in the province to join this year’s contest as LGUs showed strong support to the culinary competition, showcasing the best specialties of each LGU.

According to Lutong Garbo Committee Chair, Sylvia Uy the event is aimed to discover, develop and promote Negros Oriental’s rich and unique culinary heritage and traditions, creative use of indigenous ingredients available locally.

Uy added, this also aims to add luster to tourism activities in the province and opportunity to generate livelihood and economic growth in its respective areas.

From the set of choices of chicken n shrimp con suma of Amlan; squid surprise of Ayungon; kiampao in Bacong express; sizzling assorted seafoods in hot curry sauce of Bais City; chicken squid curry, Basay; ginataang guya mais na may hipon, Bayawan City; kangkong balls with moringga and kuhol, Canlaon City; paella de Dumaguete;

From Dauin a menu of dabong guisado with shrimps and vegetables; tadutu from Jimalalud; native chicken breast n coco cream of Mabinay; bilaug litub kare-kare of Manjuyod; embutidong tiktik, San Jose; savory stuffed crab, Sibulan; isda pinaisan, Siaton; buntog abubaho with dabong salad, Valencia; relleno con tuba of Vallehermoso; and eggplant roll of Zamboanguita.

These main dish or recipe entry must feature ingredients indigenous to the area represented as part of the criteria of the contest; and the use of ingredients such as monosodium glutamate, canned goods, imported products, and artificial seasonings are disallowed.

After the competition, all recipes will become the property of the Lutong Garbo Organizing Committee, Negros Oriental Tourism Council. (PIA/JCT) [top]
