NVizcaya DPWH says P30M needed to repair landslide-prone portion of highway
Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (October 14) -- For the national highway's Abian-Batu Ferry road section alone which is prone to landslides, the Department of Public Works and Highways is needing some P30 million inorder to prevent soil erosion.
This was bared by the DPWH Wednesday after the provincial board here called on the highways department to shed light on the series of landslides that stranded many commuters during the wake of typhoons 'Ondoy' and 'Pepeng'.
According to engr. Victor Calub, they have recommended some P30 million for the establishment of protection dikes and revetment works to stop once and for all the landslides in sitio Turturayok within the barangay Batu-Ferry-Abian road section of the national highway in Bambang town.
recommendation, he said also involves the establishment of a similar protection structures in barangay Macate section, also in Bambang town to tame the flow of the mighty Magat river.
Calu said the landslide-prone mountain in sitio Turturayok might have been disturbed during the 1990 earthquake and is already included within the faultline.
He said the DPWH is now on alert specially during the rainy season and during the declaration of calamity mode in the province inorder to ensure the continuing flow of traffic along the national highway.
