DTI extends swine, goat dispersal program

by Breezy C. Jimenez

Tubod, Lanao del Norte (14 October) -- Under the Comprehensive Livelihood Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP) of the Department of Trade and Industry, Lanao del Norte farmers are fortunate enough to avail of the swine and goat dispersal this month.

Six municipalities will be given 30 swine piglets which has a total budget allocation of P366,000.

Farmers from the municipalities of Tubod, Baroy, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Bacolod, Maigo and Kauswagan are the recipients of these piglets.

Meanwhile, 90 goats will be dispersed to farmers in the towns of Salvador, Lala and Sultan Naga Dimaporo. Each town will receive 30 goats, the allocated budget of which totaled P98,000.

In a training held on October 13, at the Farmers' Training Center, Provincial Capitol Compound, Dr. Ivan Rey B. Occeña, BMEG District Sales Supervisor, gave a discussion on swine / goat raising, health management for animals and feeding techniques in order to prepare the farmers once the piglets and goats are under their care.

The dispersal of these animals is under a loan contract.

Under this scheme, Jonah L. Bianito, Provincial CLEEP Coordinator, said the farmers are obligated to exert efforts to raise the animals and multiply its number so that they could give back the animals' young to the province as a payment for what has been dispersed.

Together with the Department of Agriculture (DA), the Provincial Veterinarian's Office has formulated a monitoring system of these animals to ensure their health as well as to shun off dirty schemes which could be perpetrated by the recipients.

Through the initiative of Governor Mohamad Khalid Quibranza Dimaporo, in coordination with DA, the program is aimed at promoting the welfare of the residents and provides them the opportunity to enhance their living conditions. (PIO-Lanao del Norte) [top]
