Oplan Kandado strikes again in Maasin City, hits 3 more erring business establishments

Maasin City (October 14) -- Three more erring establishments in the city were padlocked today in the implementation of Revenue Memorandum Order 3 – 2009 or known as Oplan Kandado led by Assistant Regional Director Wilma Elevera of BIR Regional Office in Tacloban City together with Revenue District Officer Theresa Noemi Pizon and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) team based in Southern Leyte.

According to Assistant Revenue District Officer Carlos Tambal, the N Marketing, Maasin Country Lodge and Nikki's Gift Shop, all of the mentioned business establishments are owned by a certain Nicasio Gaviola, one of the leading businessmen in the city. The N Marketing is a grocery store, Maasin Country Lodge, a pension house while the Nikki's Gift Shop sells various gift items and school supplies, will all be in temporary closure for the next five days and until such time that they settle their correct tax payments to the agency.

ARDO Tambal further disclosed that the three business establishments were among those under surveillance by the government collection agency in the locality in fifteen days as per mission order directed by BIR Regional Office especially among those establishments which showed low compliance of the existing revenue laws tax.

He reported that all of the mentioned establishments have under declared their taxable sales or receipts by 30% or more.

Tambal advised the local business sector to make necessary corrections of their compliance of the prescribed requirement s in the computations of their taxes as Oplan Kandado continues to be an active program of the collection agency.

Under Oplan Kandado, the BIR will padlock erring establishments found out with numerous tax violations ranging from undeclared and under declared sales, operating without BIR permits and non-issuance of receipts among many others.

Earlier, two establishments in Maasin City were padlocked due to under declaration of sales, however, both were subsequently re-opened after they paid their respective penalties. (PIA Southern Leyte) [top]
