by Rachelle M. Nessia

Dumaguete City (15 October) -- The 2009 Buglasan Farm Family Congress opens today to kick-off the annual Buglasan Festival of Festivals celebration.

Gov. Emilio C. Macias II will formally open the congress along with other government officials such as Board Member Napoleon Villegas, Jr. as committee chairman of agriculture and Engr. Ricardo Oblena, regional executive director of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Unit 7.

The two-day congress is spearheaded by the Office of the Provincial Agriculture and focuses on this year's theme: "Building Stronger Alliance Among Organic Practitioners for Sustainable Agriculture" in line with the province's efforts to promote organic farming.

Farmers from towns and cities here will sell their organically-grown farm products during the congress following the judging of the "Booth Pinaka Contest."

Different activities and contests are slated for the congress along with entertainment highlights and contests such as an open minus-one singing contest, Awit sa Kagahapon, Michael Jackson and Marian Rivera Look-Alike Dance Contest, all of which will start at 4:00 pm today until 12 midnight.

The coronation of 2009 Farmer King, RIC Queen and Mr. and Miss 4-H will also be conducted tonight.
