DTI Siquijor celebrates Consumer Welfare Month
Province of Siquijor (15 October) -- In pursuance to Presidential Proclamation No. 1098 dated September 26, 1997 the Department of Trade and Industry and the entire nation celebrates the annual Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) this October, 2009.
During the month-long celebration, several consumer-oriented activities are being conducted focusing on this year's theme, "Generic Drugs: Gawang Pinoy! Galing Pinoy! Tangkilikin Natin!"
For Siquijor province, the DTI here is conducting series of lectures in all secondary schools provincewide, says an information officer of the DTI here.
This year's celebration is spearheaded by the Department of Health. The theme is anchored on the key policy area of the national government to protect public health and to adopt appropriate measures to promote and ensure access to affordable quality drugs and medicines for all.
In keeping with the theme, the National Consumer Affairs Council (NCAC) and the Department of Health (DOH) in cooperation with all the implementers of the Consumer Act joined forces in encouraging the extensive use of generic drugs and the promotion of our own Filipino-made generic drugs. Massive information campaign is conducted to encourage the use of generic drugs emphasizing the scientific basis of its use in order that the public may become aware and cognizant of the generic drugs' therapeutic effectiveness.
