Cagayan de Oro City (15 October) -- Another jobs bridging and internship program will be held by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) at SM Car Park in Upper Carmen, this city, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on October 16, 2009.

Regional Director Edwin Gatinao of TESDA-10 said the event will serve as a venue to match skills available with jobs in demand both at the local and overseas market.

It is also done to show support to the unified celebration of the National Week for Overcoming Extreme Poverty (NWOEP) on October 17-23, Stand Up and Take Action Against Poverty on October 16-18, and World Food Day on October 16, Gatinao said.

Among others, activities of the day will include interview / job matching of Pangulong Gloria Scholarship (PGS) graduates and other job seekers through the Blue Desk Program, profiling of clients and livelihood skills demonstration for food processing, cell phone repair, haircut and manicure, etc.

The observance of the NWOEP is pursuant to the proclamation of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo that aims to unite the support of all sectors of society in the fight against extreme poverty.

Meanwhile, SUTA is a 3-day campaign of the United Nations to provide an opportunity for development partners to gain a deeper understanding of poverty, development and food security issues and stand up and take action in support of poverty alleviation and achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG).

Likewise, the WFD, with this year's theme of "Achieving Food Security in Times of Crisis" is a worldwide event designed to increase awareness, understanding and informed year-round action to alleviate hunger. (PIA 10) [top]
