POEA, Iloilo City gov't sign MOU on illegal recruitment

Iloilo City (16 October) -- The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) recently got the support of the Iloilo City government in its intensified campaign against illegal recruitment.

POEA, represented by Atty. Melchor Dizon, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Iloilo City government to join hands and coordinate efforts to implement an intensified and well sustained campaign against illegal recruitment.

Atty. Giovanni Miraflores, Iloilo City Legal Counsel signed the MOU on behalf of Mayor Jerry Trenas who is on travel.

The initiative is in line with the POEA's Illegal Recruitment Free Local Government Unit Program Campaign that enables LGUs to participate in the aggressive Anti-Illegal Recruitment (AIR) campaign in their locality.

The signing of the MOU highlighted the Anti-Illegal Recruitment and Trafficking in Persons Campaign Seminar conducted by the POEA in Iloilo City on October 15, 2009.

The seminar was participated in by the different PESOs, representatives of local government units, non-government organizations, schools, concerned government agencies and groups in the city and province of Iloilo, Guimaras and Antique.

During the seminar participants were briefed on the anti-illegal recruitment programs of the POEA by Atty. Lynda Llave, Officer-in-Charge of the agency's Prosecution Division and applicable law on illegal recruitment by Dizon.

They were also briefed on applicable law on trafficking in persons, modus operandi and 10 DON'TS of illegal recruitment and effective implementation of the Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar (PEO) program. (PIA) [top]
