Lanao Norte fire marshall assesses BFP chiefs
by Breezy C. Jimenez
Tubod, Lanao del Norte (16 October) -- Provincial Fire Marshall Hereberto I. Balabag of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in the province evaluated the performance, issues and concerns in the respective areas of responsibility of municipal BFP chiefs on October 14, at the Macapagal Training Center, this town.
Upon presentation of accomplishments, covering the period from July to October 2009 for calendar year 2009, by the BFP chiefs of the towns of Tubod, Baroy, Kolambugan, Maigo, Lala, Kapatagan, Sultan Naga Dimaporo and Iligan City, C/Insp Balabag evaluated each of them and checked if the reports were substantiated with documentation or any other relevant data to support the report.
Also tackled in the forum are issues and concerns pertaining to the lack or inadequate firefighting equipment and gears as well as its maintenance.
C/Insp Balabag asserted that such issues and concerns had long been in existence due to the meager funds allocated for BFP's use. However, he urged the chiefs to render their responsibility as skillfully as can be with due regard to the lives and properties they are bound to protect against destructive fires instead of maintaining low morale due to equipment inadequacy.
Per report, the common problems with regards to operations equipment are water hoses, maintenance of vehicles and other related protective gears of firefighters.
But despite this current situation, the BFP is not discouraged. In fact, the entire firefighting force of Lanao del Norte has carried on its primordial duty, that is, to prevent and suppress destructive fire for the welfare of the residents in its territory, by conducting continuous fire drills in schools, disseminate fire safety information through lectures and campaigns, fire safety inspections, constant coordination with residents, visibility and ready-assistance in cases of alarms.
In general, BFP has reported lesser occurrence of fire alarms or destructive fire in the province as it is ever vigilant in ensuring the welfare of the communities where they operate by promoting fire prevention and avoidance. (PIO Lanao del Norte) [top]
