PNP reiterates call on firearms owners to avail of amnesty program

Lagawe, Ifugao (17 October) -- With the October 31, 2009 deadline for the amnesty program of the government on loose firearms just two weeks away, the Provincial Police Office (PPO) here is reiterating its call on all firearms owner to register or renew license now.
Police Chief Inspector Reynaldo Saet, PPO Operation Officer said that there are about 490 loose firearms in the province. "This figure includes unregistered, unrenewed firearms and firearms in the possession of wanted persons and criminal guns," Saet said.
He also disclosed that as of press time, a total of 153 firearms are already registered under the said program. Of this number, 107 arte renewal and 46 are newly registered.
This amnesty program seeks to account for all the unrenewed and loose/unregistered firearms, Saet said.
Executive Order 817 or the Final Firearms Amnesty is a law granting amnesty to persons with unrenewed licensed firearms and those in possession of loose/unregistered firearms provided that the concerned individuals or holders of said firearms submit the same to the police for registration and licensing.
Under this program, the following kind/type of FAs may be registered or possessed: handguns (pistols/revolvers) cal.22 to.357 magnum up to.45 cal.; shotguns (all gauges); rifle caliber.22; all other low-powered firearms; high-powered rifles not exceeding caliber 7.62 except crew-served weapon, anti-tank etc.
Saet added that a qualified applicant may register any number of FAs for P1,000.00 for new registration and P650 for renewal of license. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
