Farmers robbed of P87,000 cash by six unidentified men

Baguio City (17 October) -- TWO farmers including their drivers were victims of hold-up by six unidentified men who carted away cash amounting to P87,000.00 and cellphones, along sitio Camay, Gitlangan, Cervantes, Ilocos Sur at around 11:30PM of October 14.

Police identified the victims as Arthur D. Bayanes, 67 years old, married, farmer and his driver Marlon N. Palubos, 35 years old, both residents of Caew, Bulalacao, Mankayan, Benguet. They were reportedly robbed of a total cash of P47,000.00.

Another victim identified as Donal U. Bagangan, 44 years old, farmer and his driver Roy R. Baguista, 29 years old, single, both residents of Monamon, Bauko, Mt. Province were also robbed allegedly by the same suspects who took away their cellphones and cash amounting to P40,000.00.

The suspects were armed with short and long firearms. After taking the cash and cellphones of the victims, they fled on foot towards Baguyos river, in sitio Baguyos, Colalo, Mankayan, Benguet.

According to PO3 Mc Arthur Sumakey of the Benguet Police Provincial Office (PPO), the victims came from the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post where they have marketed their vegetable produce. They were passing through Cervantes and heading towards Mankayan when they were held up. At that time Halsema Highway was closed to traffic.

One of the victims made a call at the BPPO, which in turn advised Mankayan Municipal Police to respond to the situation.

Benguet Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Loreto T. Espinili directed Mankayan, Buguias and Bakun MPS including the 1604th Provincial Police Mobile Group Benguet PPO to conduct manhunt operation and checkpoint for the possible arrest of the suspects. (PIA-Benguet) [top]
