Nutrition Green Banner Awardees honored

Iloilo (19 October) -- The Nutrition Green Banner awardees for 2008 were honored during the 20th Nutrition Congress which also highlighted the accomplishments of the government's Accelerated Hunger Mitigation Program (AHMP).

Regional Nutrition coordinator Nona Tad-y said Numancia town in Aklan was chosen Most Outstanding Municipality in Western Visayas, based on efficiency in implementation of Nutrition Plan and effectiveness in improving the weights of children.

Other Municipal Green Banner awardees are the towns of Sebaste, Antique, Jordan, Guimaras, and New Lucena, Iloilo.

The Green Banner award for the city went to Bacolod and for the province, to Guimaras, which were also evaluated as to nutrition plan implementation and improvement of weights of children.

Adjudged as regional outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) was Rosalinda Cabalida of Talisay City for her performance in implementation of the nutrition plan of the municipality and her extraordinary efforts in delivering services that improved the weights of malnourished children in the community.

Other 2008 Outstanding BNSs were Rebecca Pelayo, Ibajay, Aklan; Dolores Guzman, Patnongon, Antique; Febe Herrera, Jordan, Guimaras, Ma. Cristina Gonzaga, San Joaquin, Iloilo; Cirila Rodriguez, La Castellana, Negros Occ.; Julia Marquez, Bacolod City; Dolor Bermudez, Bago City; Juliet Ocon, Cadiz City; Ruth Rafil, La Carlota City; Haydee alcarde, Passi City; Jocelyn Dequito, Sagay City; Laura Degillo, Sipalay City; Rosanna Cabalida, Talisay; and, Neddie Rasay, Victorias City.

The Nutrition Green Banner Award is a yearly incentive for nutrition stakeholders that includes LGUs to ensure the efficient and effective implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition under the umbrella of the Arroyo administration's Anti-hunger program.

The recipients, with their chief executives, received the awards, which consisted of cash, plaques and banners, from NNC Executive Dir. Bernardita Flores and Ms. Nona Tad-y. (PIA6/ESS) [top]
