Southern Leyte holds 14th Annual Coop Summit in Maasin City

Maasin City, Southern Leyte (20 October) -- At least forty cooperatives from Southern Leyte and parts of Leyte attended the 14th Annual Cooperative Summit held at the city's gym here, Saturday, October 17.

Maasin Credit Cooperative Inc. (MCCI) Chairman Dominador Miel in a phone interview reported that the meeting was attended by cooperatives coming from the whole province of Southern Leyte, and the municipalities of Matalom, Bato, Hilongos, Hindang and Mahaplag, all from Leyte. ‘This is an annual meeting of all member-cooperatives to strengthen unity, fellowship, hence sharing of cooperative management practices to all its members," Miel disclosed.

The coop summit carries the theme, "One coop movement, one vision, one nation." Activities prepared for the one-day activity started with a Holy Mass and a parade around the city streets, before the proper program started at the Maasin City gym which was keynoted by Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Regional Director Armonio Paa, Miel said.

Fun games, group games like basketball, volleyball, dart, among others were competed by the different teams consisting of the members by each cooperative.

Miel, the MMBL (Maasin, Macrohon,Padre Burgos and Limasawa) cluster chairman reported that after the fellowship of the south-west member coops, a luncheon conference attended by the chairman of the board, coop managers and key officers of the organization was held at the Southern Leyte Employees Multi-Purpose Coop (SLEMCOOP). The activity was sponsored by Country Bankers led by Area Representative Roger A. Cabaltera, from the Country Bankers Life Insurance Corporation.

The conference came up with th reorganization of Provincial Cooperative Development Council (PCDV), election of new set of officers, formed the League of Cooperatives represented by the managers of the South-West Leyte, Miel revealed.

Miel added that the later activity was still graced by Mr. Paa as the resource speaker and Claire Napoles of Coop Natco based in Eastern Visayas for the closing remarks. Maasin City Sangguniang Panglungsod member Rene Hatayna and Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Daisy Gamale who represented the province of Southern Leyte were also present during the affair.
