Estancia, Iloilo (PIA6) -- For sixty-seven year-old Barangay Health Worker Felicisima Paciente, the expansion and improvement of Estancia Water District is a boost to the people's improved health and sanitation.
Felicisima said this was their long awaited dream to have a safe drinking water and expressed her gratitude to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's concern in providing the people in this part of the country with a first line of defense against water-borne diseases.
As a Barangay Health Worker for twenty-seven years in Barangay Canoan, she said that they get their water source from a pump well some 50 meters away from their house.
She considers the water source as not safe, considering that they buy purified water as a drinking water whenever there are newly born infants in the area.
"Labing salamat, madugay na namon ginahandom ang ini nga sahi sang proyekto para sa tubig nga ilimnon" (Thank you very much. We have been hoping for so long to have this kind of project), Felicisima expressed during an interview before President Arroyo arrived to lead the ground breaking ceremony.
"The President is good. She grants projects beneficial to the welfare of the many," she further said.
When asked what she would tell the President Arroyo if she was given a chance to talk with the President, she answered that she will take up matters concerning health program for the people and to request the renovation of their Barangay Health Center.
The Estanciahanons were ecstatic when President Arroyo, with a microphone greeted them "maayong aga, congratulations for your P30 million water project".
Under the leadership of Mayor Restituto Mosqueda, the municipality has closely followed the national priorities of health, poverty alleviation, infrastructure, and resource management.
