Western Visayas statistical congress set October 28-30
Iloilo City (21 October) -- Planners, statisticians, researchers and data users in Western Visayas are expected to gather in this city for the 9th Statistical Congress on October 28 to 30, 2009.
The three day event which is organized by the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB), Philippine Statistical Association and the Commission on Higher Education will be held at the Iloilo Grand Hotel for about a hundred participants.
NSCB 6 Regional Head Presentacion Penpillo said participants are expected to share a common knowledge and understanding of, react to, and/or respond to recent statistical developments in the statistical system during the meeting.
The Congress will further provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, experiences, and intellectual discussions of statistical breakthroughs, standards and good practices in the Philippines Statistical System for information and/or adoption.
According to Penpillo technical experts that were invited will present papers which delve on Security Sector Statistics highlighting Poverty Statistics; Gender Development Index; Transformational Leadership for Effective Governance; IT and the Global Crisis; Opinion Polls; Economic Performance and the Labor Market; Food Security/Sufficiency; Good Practices In Governance; Guimaras-NSCB Partnership; Security of Children in Conflict with Law; Seafarers Shortage: Viewpoints from Stakeholders; among others.
"This relevant forum is an important building block for a statistically aware and developed statistical system", added Penpillo.
The closing ceremonies of the 9th Statistical Congress will coincide with the awarding and closing rites of the 20th National Statistics Month celebration in the region on October 30.
