Isabela disaster officials urge low-lying residents to evacuate to safer grounds

Ilagan, Isabela (21 October) -- When the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecast yesterday that the province of Isabela is under storm signal number 1, local officials urged residents from the low lying areas to evacuate while typhoon "Ramil" has not yet reached the province.

Disaster officials of Isabela are repeatedly appealing to all residents whose house are near the rivers and coastal areas to look for safer grounds now to prevent unnecessary occurence when the typhoon has already hit the province.

Ilagan, Isabela Mayor Jose Marie L. Diaz convened the members of the Ilagan Disaster Coordinating Council to monitor the residents of low lying areas and advised them to move early to avoid hardships in evacuation when the typhoon is already hitting the province.

The PDCC has directed all disaster councils in every municipality and barangay to make pre-emptive evacuations of residents along river banks on the stretch of Cagayan River.

The PDCC has also prepared relief goods to be given to the would be affected families especially those who will be housed in evacuation centers. (PIA Isabela) [top]
