NVizcaya villagers join 'Pasa Load' for 22 GK houses

Dupax Del Sur, Nueva Vizcaya (October 21) -- Close to 1,000 villagers in this town participated in bringing rocks needed for the construction of houses for the Gawad Kalinga site in barangay Mangayang here Tuesday.

The activity dubbed as 'Pasa Load' - Rocks for GG Tagnawaan GK Village also drew support from local officials, civic organizations, local government employees and officials and national government agency representatives.

The 'Pasa Load' involves the collection of rocks from the river and passed from person to person lining up for at least 1.5 kilometers.

"This is a showcase of unity and cooperation to help those who are in need," said board member Efren Quiben, provincial Gawad Kalinga coordinator.

He said that there were already 235 housing units built in the province through the Gawad Kalinga project in various sites such as in the towns of Dupax del Norte, Bagabag, Diadi, Bambang and Dupax del Sur.

Aside from building houses, GK also offers other components of the project such as values formation, community development and livelihood programs for the landless and homeless villagers.

Vice governor Jose Gambito said the GK project in the province is fully supported by the provincial government because it benefits the poor sector.

"This is one of the symbols of development that our province now enjoy because of our unity of purpose, committed and dedicated public service," he said.

Governor Luisa Cuaresma on her part said the provincial government has allocated P4 million this year as part of its commitment in pushing for the GK project in identified areas of the province.

She said another P3.4 million will be allocated next year to further expand housing projects for the poor through the GK.

"There is a need to continue this project since many of our constituents do not still have an abode for their family. We need to act on this until it will be finished," she said.

The activity was also highlighted by the signing of a memorandum of agreement(MOA) with barangay, municipal, provincial officials and GK officials from the provincial, regional and national levels. (bme/PIA NVizcaya) [top]
