Dumaguete City (21 October) -- Malacanang has declared October 23 as a non-working holiday in Negros Oriental in line with the ongoing Buglasan Festival of Festivals celebration.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita by authority of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has signed Proclamation No. 1919 declaring the non-working holiday to give Negrenses the opportunity to participate and celebrate the annual festival.
Buglasan Festival celebration runs from October 16 to 25, 2009.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan has earlier requested Malacanang to declare Oct. 23 as a non-working holiday.
The ten-day festival this year promises to be more spectacular than the previous years with more contingents from the local government units here participating in the various events slated for the festival, particulary the Festival of Festivals Showdown.
Some 13 contingents are gearing up for the showdown on October 23 at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex.
Last year, only five contingents competed in said showdown, which is the highlight of the festival.
The festival will culminate with the Fireworks Competition on the evening of October 25. Other events include a My Negros Oriental Photo Exhibit at the Sidlakan Negros Art Gallery, Lutong Garbo cookfest, Marching Band Showdown, live band competitions, cheerdance competition, and the Outstanding Oriental NEgrense Awards, among others.
