Ombudsman Visayas beefs up staff
Iloilo City (22 October) -- The Ombudsman-Visayas Regional Office here is beefing up its workforce to meet the growing need for its services in Western Visayas.
Ombudsman Associate Graft Investigation Officer and Public Information Officer Evangeline G. Nunal said their office will be taking in 13 more investigation officers and administrative personnel in addition to its existing 10-man staff.
The Ombudsman regional office here said it has started making the necessary step to select the men and women they are looking for to man its field investigation, corruption prevention and education, and administrative groups.
These include 6 Associate Graft Investigation Officers and 7 administrative personnel.
The Philippine Ombudsman or Tanodbayan is an ombudsman responsible for investigating and prosecuting government officials in the country who are allegedly guilty of crimes.
The Office of the Ombudsman is headed by Hon. Ma. Merceditas Navarro-Gutierrez. Hon. Pelagio S. Apostol is the Deputy Ombudsman for Visayas.
The Offices of the Ombudsman independently monitor the government and its three branches. The Ombudsman is also responsible for receiving complaints from citizens, organizations, corporations, and other parties in the country. The Ombudsman usually prosecutes officials who are allegedly involved in acts of graft andcorruption.
The Offices of the Ombudsman includes the Ombudsman's own office, along with offices for a team composed of a sheriff, the Ombudsman's second in command, and 6 other deputies who lead their respective divisions and/or bureaus. (PIA 6-JSC) [top]
