by Breezy C. Jimenez

TUBOD, Lanao del Norte (22 October) -- Through the initiative of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), the residents of the province is assured of safe meat consumption with the observance of Meat Safety Consciousness Week which commences on October 19 and will end on October 23 under the theme, "Para sa Kaligtasan ng Karne, Kaisa Ako."

This program extends not just for a week since consumers must be ensured of the availability of safe meat even for the years to come.

Scheduled activities include PVO daily visitations in slaughterhouses in the province to see if operators and butchers alike observe the proper procedure in slaughtering animals, to acquaint them of the rules and regulations as regards meat inspection and maintain meat hygiene which will guarantee meat quality and to check also if safety standards are being practiced.

Spearheading this activity is the National Meat Inspection Services (NMIS) of the Department of Agriculture (DA) pursuant to Presidential Proclamation Number 276 declaring every 3rd week of October as Meat Safety Consciousness Week.

It has been proven that the observance of this activity is an effective and valuable tool to heighten the awareness of consumers on the importance of taking in quality and safe meat and meat products. (Lanao del Norte) [top]
