Task Force Anticala formed, two captives released

Butuan City (23 October) -- PRO 13 has created Task Force Anticala to focus on the case following the abduction of seven (7) DENR employees by unidentified perpetrators. Victims were abducted at DENR Checkpoint located at the Brgy Hall of Brgy Anticala, Butuan City on October 21, 2009 around 1:00 o'clock dawn.

The TF Anticala is headed by Police Superintendent Joseph D Plaza, Officer In-Charge of Butuan City Police Office under the close supervision of Pssupt Samuel Yordan, Deputy Regional Director for Operations and in close coordination with DENR, NCIP, Local Government of Butuan City, other agencies and LGU Officials.

On October 22, 2009, Task Force members held a meeting at the Tactical Operation Center of PRO 13 and were able to identify the abductors reportedly led by alias Andot Behing, a rebel returnee and allegedly a member of the "Nagkahiusang Lumad" and came up with strategies & plans for the release of the victims.

Later in the afternoon of October 22, 2009, two of the abducted DENR employees namely Emiliano Gatillo Jr and Efren Sabuero were released by the abductors to police authorities and DENR officials in Kulambugan, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur with the help of Kulambugan Brgy Captain Mergan Carlos together with other "datus" in the area after an undisclosed agreement with DENR.

Caraga Police Regional Director Police Chief Superintendent Lino De Guzman Calingasan assured that PNP Caraga is in full force to help resolve the situation and safe release of the remaining captives. He also appreciated the efforts of Sibagat LGUs, Lumads and others who had helped in the release of the two victims. (PNP-13) [top]
