Davao City holds Children's Congress

Davao City (24 October) -- In celebration of the 17th National Children's Month Celebration, a citywide multi-sectoral Children's Congress is being held in Davao City which will run from October 23 to 25.
Anchoring the theme Bright Child: Proteksyon ng Bata, Pananagutan ng Bansa. The Children's Congress held at Felis Resort Complex in this city is spearheaded by the Davao City SK Federation Office and the Council for the Welfare of Children. It is also participated in by children associations which are independent or linked with local government units, non-government organization and other concerned institiutions.
The highlight of the Congress will be discussions that tackle the global, national and regional children's situation and input on children's rights based on Philippine laws and United Nations conventions.
Expected to grace the Congress is City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, 1st District Councilor Angela Librado-Trinidad, Sangguniang Kabataan Chairperson and City Councilor Halila Sudagar.
Resource persons on children's situations and children's rights will be coming from Manila to apprise the delegates who are mostly Davao City children coming from different barangays and sectors.
Among the objectives of the congress is to come up with the a city's children situationer taken from a child's standpoint, creation of an adhoc group composed of children's leaders to serve as coordinating body of various children's groups or associations geared towards the formation of Children's associations in the barangay level.
