DAR Ifugao assists 11 farmer coops

Lagawe, Ifugao (24 October) -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), in implementing programs and projects geared to uplift the economic conditions of the farmers, is assisting 11 farmer cooperatives in the province.
Yolanda Pago, Supervising Agrarian Reform Program Officer said that there are 11 farmers cooperative in the province being assisted with a total membership of 11,478. The said organizations have total financial resources of P326,988,954 as of September 30, 2009.
Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer Deogracias Almora, said that Republic Act 6657 as amended by RA 9700 prescribes a package of support services that must be provided to Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) and their communities.
"DAR adopted the Agrarian Reform Community (ARC) strategy as a geographical focus of the delivery of support services within the said areas and even communities outside ARC areas," Almora said.
The regular ARC are in the municipalities of Lagawe, Lamut, Alfonso Lista, Aguinaldo, Mayoyao, Asipulo and the special Tribal ARC are in Kiangan, Hingyon and Tinoc.
With the capability building conducted for ARBs and ARB organizations, the members were given farming technology trainings and other skills trainings needed by the ARBs while the farmer's cooperatives were provided with all the cooperative trainings such as bookkeeping, auditing, credit management, financial management, cooperative ownership.
