Ifugao agriculture office adopts programs to empower farmer families

Lagawe, Ifugao (24 October) -- The local agriculture department here is empowering farmers and the their families by implementing programs that are suited to all family members.
Ruth Bogbog of the Provincial Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources Office (PAENRO) said they want the farmers to engage in rural development and planning activities, institutional development of farmers based organizations, livelihood promotion, entrepreneurial and rural resource development.
She said fathers benefit from the P4MP-"Father", a program that covers among others rice and corn farmers, irrigators association, fruit and vegetable growers.
PAENRO is also implementing programs for the mother of the family through the Rural Improvement Club. "This is a non-government, barangay- based volunteer group of women composed of at least 25 members with varied interests and capabilities who are mobilized for socio-economic projects.
Bogbog believes that the RIC will bring about effective involvement of rural women in home and community development projects through participatory collective efforts for better living.
According to Bogbog, there is also the 4-H club of the Philippines program for the children in the family. This is an organization of rural youth primarily the out of school youth involved in education programs and income generating projects for the four fold development namely Head, Heart, Hands and Health.
With the motto, "Make the best better" and a slogan "learning by doing", the youth who are members of this club have many opportunities such as trainings outside the country and various trainings and others. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
