Quiz bee, extempo speech highlight Consumer Welfare Month

Bontoc, Mt. Province (24 October) -- Highlighting the celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month in the province is the conduct of extemporaneous speech competition among college students and quiz bee among senior high school students which was conducted last October 22.

James K. Tufay and Danica Ticangen will represent the province in the regional competition on Extemporaneous Speech and Quiz Bee respectively which will be conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry-CAR on October 28 this year.

There were three college students who competed in the extemporaneous speech and 28 senior high school students who participated in the quiz bee.

Tufay, a third year BSED major in English at the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College, was adjudged as the winner in the extemporaneous speech. He received a cash prize of P3,000 and a certificate of recognition.

In the quiz bee category, Danica Ticangen, a senior high school student of Data National High School of Data, Sabangan, garnered the highest score. She received a cash prize of P3,000 and a certificate of recognition.

Second placer is Hamir Pagnas of Mt. Data National High School while third is Wryneth Gay Mayapit of Saint Mary's High School in Sagada. They received a cash prize of P2,000 and P1,000 respectively and certificate of recognition. Prizes and certificates were awarded by DTI Provincial Director Juliet Lucas.

Certification of Appreciation will also be awarded to the coaches and schools who participated during the quiz bee.

Meanwhile, Joel Fagsao, Director of Xijen College of Mt. Province committed to the 28 senior high school students who participated in the quiz bee, a 100 percent discount on tuition fee (excluding miscellaneous fees) for the first semester of SY 2010-2011 should they enroll in any of the 4-year course offered by the institution like Bachelor of Science in Education (BSED) major in Filipino; Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT); and Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship (BSEntrep).

Another activity undertaken in celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month in the province was the Fun Walk which was participated in by Criminology Interns, some faculty members of MPGCHS, ROTC, students of Xijen College and the PNP. The Fun Walk started from the Samoki bridge going around the town with their streamers. (PIA MP) [top]
