Typhoon "Pepeng" damages in Benguet pegged at P542.751 and 205 casualties

La Trinidad, Benguet (24 October) -- Cost of damages to properties wrought by typhoon "Pepeng" has now reached a total of P542.751 million and a total of 205 deaths based on partial report of the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC). There are still 10 individuals reported missing while injured were 104 persons.

PDCC Chair Governor Nestor Fongwan issued the partial report on damages last Friday. Pepeng also affected 32,105 families or a total of 151,741 individuals.

Based on the validated reports of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, there were 447 totally damaged houses and 656 partially damaged houses.

The cost of crop damages now totaled P231.158 million while the cost of damages of agricultural production support facilities registered a total of P15.672 million. For livestock and fisheries, total cost of damage reached P3.635 million.

Cost of damage to classrooms still totaled to P29.45 million while facilities such as furniture, computers, books remained at P690,000.

Damage to national roads was estimated at P53.050 million while provincial roads totaled 77.85 million. Municipal and barangay roads including various farm-to-market roads totaled P36.805 million.

Irrigation systems totaled P33.5 million while waterworks system totaled P4.965 million.

Footbridges, footpaths and pathways totaled P9.063 million, flood control structures totaled P3.1 million while other health facilities totaled P4.14 million.

Private properties such as residential houses, church, farmlands among others totaled P12.5 million. (PIA-Benguet) [top]
