Military takes over NPA camp in Jipapad, East Samar
Tacloban City (October 24) -- The troopers of the 14th Infantry Battalion under First Lieutenant Gonzaga seized a communist terrorist camp at the vicinity of Jipapad, Eastern Samar at about 11:00 o'clock in the morning of October 22, Colonel Armand Rico, information officer of the 8th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.
This development is the result of the unceasing campaign of the military against insurgency with the end-in-view of bringing peace and development in the hinterlands of Region 8 in Eastern Visayas.
The communist terrorist camp was manned by about 20 communist terrorists under an unknown leader, the report said. The firefight lasted for about 15 minutes after which the communist terrorists retreated and scampered in different directions.
No casualty was reported on the government side while the number of casualties on the enemy side was undetermined.
Recovered at the camp were two (2) hand grenades, three (3) rifle grenades, three (3) sacks of rice, twenty-three (23) containers of gasoline, dental and medical paraphernalia, personal belongings and subversive documents.
The NPA encampment is composed of one(1) kitchen; one (1) bulwagan and six (6) bunkers.
Col. Rico said that the troopers are still in the area for clearing operations towards Jipapad complex in Eastern Samar to recover the reported casualties in the enemy side that were left behind in the area as the communist terrorist scampered for safety. (PIA 8) [top]
