Kabataan ITO recognizes role of youth in nat'l service

Roxas City (26 October) -- An orientation for 15 Capiceño youth that would serve as mentors for the Kabataan ITO (Information Technology Opportunities) project was conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Provincial Office last October 23 here.
Labor and Employment Officer William Dungog presented the project to the youth applicants taken from the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) – Roxas City database of jobseekers.
"This is in view of the government's National Youth Service (NYS) program which underscores the importance of the youth in community action in the wake of the global economic crisis," Dungog noted during the briefing.
President Gloria Macapagal–Arroyo has issued Executive Order No. 788 to promote the role of the youth in national service. The EO tackles the need to involve the youth aged 18 to 24 years in the national service program through the National Service Corps (NSC) and Youth Conservation Corps (YCC).
Dungog added that the project will mobilize IT-literate unemployed or underemployed youth as mentors to some 1,500 out-of-school youths (OSYs), informal sector (IS) workers and other disadvantaged groups in the region through lessons on basic and practical computer operations and to supervise online access to government programs and services.
A modest stipend of P25 per hour will be paid by DOLE for the youth mentors.
The project will be launched in the province next month. (PIA) [top]
