Compostela stude tops Consumer Month poster making contest

Davao City (27 October) -- Displaying her genius in visual arts, high school student Carla J. Basalo of Compostela National High School bested other entries from all over the province to emerge as the winner of the Poster Making Competition in this year's celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month.

The On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest held on October 20, 2009 at the Provincial Capitol in Nabunturan, Compostela Valley was being initiated by the Department of Trade and Industry - Compostela Valley in cooperation with the Provincial Government of ComVal and DepEd Comval.

Carla J. Basalo's interpretation of the theme, creativity and visual impact of her poster won the approval of the board judges and earned her a P 3,000 cash prize and a plaque. Her poster will be the provincial entry for the regional level competition late this month. The poster making contest is open to all high school students all over the province. The artwork must carry the theme of the contest which is "Sa Krisis Sagot Natin: Generics at Gawang Pinoy, Tangkilikin!".

The 2nd prize of P 2,000 cash and a plaque went to John Ralph S. Amamio of Maco National High School, while the 3rd prize of a medal and P 1,000 cash went to Russele Jhude P. Salapantan of Montevista National High School. Other winners namely Jesrael Cabetingan of Pantukan National High School (4th place), Medel Ejera of Nabunturan National Comprehensive High School (5th place), Dave Anthony Rollon of Manat National High School (Consolation prize), and Peniel Caminna Ferolin of Monkayo National High School (Consolation prize) also received a medal and cash prizes.

Isabelo Melendres, Executive Assistant of Gov. Arturo Uy, conveyed the governor's message of his support to the consumer welfare and is happy that the artistic talents of the Comval youths were showcased in this activity. (dti comval) [top]
