Army completes bridge and houses

Camp Kalaw, Monkayo, Compostela Valley Province (27 October) -- Lt. Colonel Gilbert Saret, Commanding Officer of the Philippine Army's 25th Infantry Battalion, 10th Infantry Division attended the blessing of the newly constructed foot bridge infrastructure project by the United States-Agency for International Develepment in purok 3, Barangay Upper Ulip, Monkayo, Com Val Province on 23 October 2009. The foot bridge connected the isolated Purok 3 of Upper Ulip to the rest of the Barangay and ultimately to the center of the municipality's trade and commerce.

Several similar projects were being conducted through the US-AID or Kalayaan sa barangay Projects (KBP) where in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) specifically the Philippine Army is actively involved in. The turn-over of the Foot Bridge was also attended by the Vice Mayor Avelino T Cabag of Monkayo, Compostela Valley Province.

Simultaneously, on October 23, 2009 members of the 25th IB headed by 1LT REY VERGEL A ANNOGUI, Civil-Military Operations officer, attended the 3rd Gawad Kalinga Bayani Challenge opening, intended on building houses of residents of Masara, Maco,CVP who were victims of the landslide last year.

The 25th IB were among hundreds of volunteers who will build free houses for the recipients of the said project.

Meanwhile, on 22 October 2009, 235 high school students of Mangayon National High School in barangay Mangayon, Compostela, CVP were beneficiaries to Public information and safety awareness lectures and leadership training intended to guide them to become responsible citizens and give their share of contribution for our nation's progress.

The 25th IB who served as the facilitator of the activity, complemented the performance and the high level of awareness of the students on their role as the future leaders of our country. This reflected the excellent performance of the teachers of the school in educating the students.

The 25IB Research Team for Peace and Development are at present helping the Local Government of Compostela Valley Province in the conduct of Rapid Need Assessment for projects that will alleviate the living condition of the local populace and ultimately bring development in the area.
