Region 8 conducts 3rd Regional Solid Waste Management Summit
Tacloban City (October 27) -- Director Letecia Maceda of the Environmental Management Bureau disclosed the conduct of the 3rd Regional Solid Waste Management Summit on November 18-19, 2009 at the DPWH Multi-Purpose Hall, DPWH Compound at the Government Center.
The theme for this year's Summit is "Sustaining Waste Reduction through Recycling, Education and Composting: Our Regional Action to Climate change Mitigation."
Highlight of the Summit is the awarding and recognition of winners for the first ever REC-8 Search for Model LGUs and SWM Best Practices 2009 in Eastern Visayas, Director Maceda informed.
The main objective of the event is to provide support services to Local Government Units and all sectors of society in the implementation and sustainability of solid waste management initiatives through transfer of technical know-how, technical assistance and networking.
Invited to attend the Summit are local chief executives, city and municipal environment and natural resources officers, city and municipal planning and development officers and SB members preferably the chairman on the committee on Environment.
To grace the occasion and to interact with the participants on their concerns regarding Solid Waste Management, the Honorable Environment Secretary LIto Atienza has been invited. In case, he is unable to attend, he will send a representative who is equally knowledgeable. Also invited to act as resource speakers are the Executive Director of the National Solid Waste Commission Secretariat and other personalities who are actively involved in SWM Programs.
Among the features in the Summit is the two-day exhibit starting November 18 at 8:00 o'clock in the morning outside the DPWH Multi-Purpose Hall with exhibitors within and outside the Region invited to present some SMW recycled products, technologies and other innovations for possible replication by other LGUs.
Another feature is a Dinner Show cum Fellowship Night which will be held in the evening of November 18 highlighting a Fashion Show with the theme "Managing Wastes in Fashion" where models will showcase gowns and accessories made out of solid wastes. (PIA 8) [top]
